Abstract

This research is motivated by the limited integration of collaborative values in English language learning in elementary schools, which tends to be teacher-centered and utilizes minimal interactive digital media. This condition results in the strengthening of collaborative character not being optimally facilitated through teaching materials. This study aims to analyze the integration and development of collaborative values in bilingual digital storybooks. The study used a Design and Development (D&D) approach with the subjects being the developed bilingual digital storybooks, and involved two Teaching English for Young Learners (TEYL) experts and two fifth-grade English teachers as evaluators. Data were collected through document analysis and expert evaluation sheets using a five-point Likert scale. Data analysis was conducted qualitatively through content analysis to identify the values of caring, sharing, and cooperation and their levels of development, and quantitatively descriptively to analyze the results of expert assessments. The results showed that collaborative values have been systematically integrated through narratives, illustrations, and interactive tasks, and developed gradually from developing to advanced levels. Expert assessments also indicated that the storybooks have good quality, relevance, and suitability as learning media. This study concludes that bilingual digital storybooks effectively support English language learning while strengthening collaborative character. These findings have implications for the development of digital learning media that integrate language competencies and character education in elementary schools.
