Low interest in reading Indonesian literary works remains a challenge among vocational high school (SMK) students. This community service program aimed to increase students’ interest in reading Indonesian literature through interactive and participatory literary appreciation training at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Palembang. The program involved 32 eleventh-grade students and comprised preparation, training, and evaluation stages. Training activities included interactive learning, group discussions, expressive reading, drama simulation, and reflection. Changes in students’ responses were assessed using pre- and post-training questionnaires covering interest in reading literature, reading outside regular classroom activities, interest in poetry, short stories, and drama, and confidence in expressing opinions. The results showed positive changes across all indicators. Interest in reading Indonesian literature increased from 38% to 67%, reading outside regular classroom activities from 35% to 63%, interest in poetry from 32% to 65%, short stories from 40% to 70%, and drama from 30% to 68%. Confidence in expressing opinions increased from 42% to 72%. These results indicate that participatory literary appreciation activities can encourage positive responses to literary reading. Continued implementation through school literacy programs and Indonesian language learning is recommended.
