<![CDATA[This study aims to analyze the cross-cultural communication practices displayed on the "Ueno Family Japan" YouTube channel and to examine the application of Cultural Proximity theory in establishing cultural closeness between the creator and the audience. A descriptive qualitative research method was employed, focusing on videos from the "Ueno Family Japan" channel published between February and June 2025. Data collection involved non-participant observation and documentation, while data analysis utilized the Miles and Huberman model, comprising data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that cross-cultural communication within the Ueno family is characterized by the alternating use of Indonesian, Japanese, and Javanese as a form of communicative adaptation among family members. Furthermore, cultural commonalities—such as values of politeness, gratitude, respect, and cooperation—were identified, stemming from both Indonesian and Japanese cultures. The study also reveals the formation of social bonds within a diaspora context through interactions with fellow Indonesians in Japan, as well as the representation of universal cultural themes—such as family ties, tolerance, and mutual respect—that resonate with a cross-cultural audience. In conclusion, the "Ueno Family Japan" YouTube content naturally represents cross-cultural communication within a multicultural family setting and demonstrates the relevance of Cultural Proximity theory in explaining the cultural closeness fostered through shared language, culture, social bonds, and universal values in digital media.
