The rapid growth of motor vehicles in Indonesia is often not balanced with adequate road infrastructure, causing congestion at crucial points such as the Gelumbang 4-Arm Intersection, Muara Enim Regency. This.study.aims.to.analyze the existing performance of the Gelumbang 4-Arm Intersection as an unsignalized intersection and evaluate the effectiveness of installing Traffic Lights (APILL) through a microsimulation approach. The method used was a seven-day field survey to collect traffic volume and road geometric data, which was then modeled using PTV Vissim 2023 software. Simulation results for existing conditions show good performance with Level.of.Service (LOS) A, an.average.delay=of 4.93 seconds/vehicle, and an.average.queue.length=of 12.29.meters. Conversely, the APILL installation simulation actually decreased intersection performance to LOS D, with average delay increasing to 46.49 seconds/vehicle and average queue length reaching 68.44 meters. Based on these results, it is concluded that the installation of APILL at the Gelumbang 4-Arm Intersection is not yet necessary. As a recommendation, it is suggested to install warning lights to enhance safety aspects without disrupting the main traffic flow.
