Abstract

This study evaluates the effectiveness of group counseling based on Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) using the ABCDE framework to enhance emotional intelligence among 11th-grade social science students at MA NW Kotaraja in the 2025/2026 academic year. The research utilized a one-group pretest–posttest design involving eight students identified with low emotional intelligence levels. A five-point Likert scale was employed to measure Goleman’s five domains: self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills. The intervention consisted of five 45-minute sessions conducted over a three-week period. Statistical analysis via paired sample t-test revealed a highly significant improvement from pretest (M=68) to posttest (M=136) scores (p < 0.001). Additionally, qualitative findings indicated that participants demonstrated enhanced emotional regulation, increased self-confidence, and deeper interpersonal understanding after applying the ABCDE model. Ultimately, the study concludes that REBT-based group counseling effectively strengthens students' emotional intelligence, particularly in fostering empathy and social competence within an educational context.
