Abstract

The HEART score is a clinical instrument used to assess the risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in patients with suspected acute coronary syndrome, including those with coronary heart disease (CHD). One of the factors associated with the HEART score is blood pressure. This study aimed to determine the relationship between blood pressure and the HEART score among patients with CHD. This study employed an analytical correlational design with a cross-sectional approach involving 52 patients with CHD selected using a consecutive sampling technique. Blood pressure was measured using a sphygmomanometer, while the HEART score was assessed using the HEART score questionnaire. Data were analyzed using Spearman's rank correlation test. The results showed that 68% of the patients had hypertension, and 73% were classified as having a high risk of major adverse cardiovascular events. Spearman's rank correlation analysis demonstrated a significant relationship between both systolic and diastolic blood pressure and the HEART score (p=0.000), with moderate correlation strength for systolic blood pressure (r=0.503) and diastolic blood pressure (r=0.584). High blood pressure contributes to the acceleration of atherosclerosis and increases cardiac workload in patients with CHD. Patients with higher blood pressure tend to have a greater risk of cardiovascular events. Therefore, intensive monitoring of both blood pressure and the HEART score is recommended in patients with CHD.
