Improving Workers' Understanding Of Osteo Arthritis Disease Due To Work For Tea Leaf Picking Workers At Ptpn 12 Lawang

Abstract

Background. Osteoarthritis is a type of arthritis that is most often suffered by sufferers compared to other types of arthritis. It is estimated that there are two million elderly people in Indonesia who are disabled due to osteoarthritis. This figure is quite high and requires special attention because osteoarthritis often damages joints and causes movement disorders in sufferers. Along with the length of time working as a tea picker and increasing age, the incidence of osteoarthritis will continue to increase. Objective. Increase knowledge about osteoartritis in tea leaf pickers in Wonokerto Lawang tea plantations, Malang Regency.Method. Activities carried out with direct face-to-face counseling. Before and after the activity, questionnaires were given to see the initial knowledge and after the counseling and the results were analyzed Results. One person (2%) aged less than 40 years complained of OA and two people (6%) aged more than 40 years complained of OA. The participant's level of knowledge was 100%, they did not understand OA. The pre-test score was 72% very poor, 26% poor and only 2% quite poor. The post test results of the level of knowledge greatly increased from not understanding to understanding. 2% of the knowledge scores were good and 96% of the scores were very good with a p value <0.05 (0.000) which means very significant.Conclusion. The knowledge of workers at the Wonosari Tea Plantation about OA disease increased after the education was carried out.Keywords: Extension, osteoartritis, Wonokerto Lawang tea plantations
