Abstract

Acne is a common skin problem experienced by teenagers and adults. One alternative plant that has the potential to overcome acne is basil leaves which can be formulated into a clay mask preparation. Claymask is used for oily or sensitive skin because of its ability to deeply cleanse the skin, absorb excess oil and detoxify the facial skin. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there were differences in the physical properties of claymask preparations before and after the stability test of physical properties with variations in kaolin and bentonite concentrations in claymask preparations from basil leaf extract. This research method was carried out by extracting basil leaves using the maceration method. The formulation of clay mask preparations from basil leaf extract used variations of kaolin and bentonite bases respectively, namely, F1 (25% and 3%), F2 (30% and 4%) and F3 (35% and 5%). Evaluation of the physical properties of the clay mask preparations included organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, spreadability, adhesiveness, viscosity, drying time and physical stability tests of the preparations using the cycling test method which was carried out for 6 cycles. The results showed that all formulas were declared stable because there was no significant difference in the physical properties of the preparations against the stability test carried out on the clay mask preparation from basil leaf extract, and all formulas in each test were declared good because the results showed that they were within the required range
