General Background: Reading literacy remains a challenge for students in rural madrasahs, particularly those with limited early stimulation and learning support. Specific Background: MI Fajrul Islam 02 Pulo implements Student Need Care (SNC) to support lower-grade students through additional reading assistance. Knowledge Gap: Previous studies discuss remedial reading and periodic evaluation, but limited research describes SNC implementation in rural madrasahs. Aims: This study analyzes SNC implementation, identifies challenges, and evaluates its contribution to students’ reading development. Results: Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving seven purposively selected informants. SNC uses initial assessment, student grouping, phonics, multisensory activities, repeated practice, and extra reading time. Weekly and monthly evaluations guide instructional adjustments and parent coordination. Novelty: The study provides an empirical account of SNC implementation in a rural madrasah. Implications: Sustained evaluation, teacher flexibility, and stronger school–home communication are needed to support literacy development. Key Findings Highlights Initial assessment guides student grouping by reading ability. Multisensory practice supports gradual reading development. Weekly and monthly evaluations guide instructional adjustments. Keywords : Student Need Care, Reading Literacy, Early Reading, Rural Madrasah, Literacy Intervention
