Abstract

Purpose of Study: This research on community service program aims to accompany and empower the KTH Madu Sari forest farmer group as the community partner in Katongan Village, Nglipar District, Gunungkidul Regency, by strengthening productive communication skills, utilizing artificial intelligence and augmented reality, and mentoring community-based edu-tourism and digital marketing practices based local needs. From the outset, the partner faced challenges, including limited active member participation, centralized educational roles held by the group leader, low digital literacy, and dependence on external honey suppliers. Methodology: The program was implemented using a Community Action Research approach across three cycles, encompassing participatory planning, training and co-creation, and implementation with reflection. Concrete activities included step-by-step public speaking training using a structured rubric, collaborative development of simple promotional media assisted by artificial intelligence tools, integration of augmented reality content into edu-tourism packages, and hands-on mentoring in stingless-bee colony management and social media-based marketing activation. Main Findings: The results demonstrate improvements in members’ communication performance based on the public speaking rubric, the emergence of two new edu-tourism instructors, increased honey production capacity, and the establishment of more organized digital marketing channels. Practically, this program contributes to decentralizing educational and marketing roles within the group, reducing reliance on external suppliers, and forming a contextual, technology-enabled learning and entrepreneurship ecosystem. Novelty/Originality of This Study: This empowerment model offers a replicable framework for other rural, resource-based community groups seeking sustainable capacity development.
