<![CDATA[The formation of an individual's self-identity begins in the family environment, where an individual develops. When a family experiences dysfunction, engages in long-term conflicts, or divorces, it will greatly affect the formation of a child's identity. The high divorce rate in East Java, especially in Surabaya, indicates that destructive communication patterns within families have not been adequately addressed. The purpose of this research is to delve deeper into how family experiences influence the interpretation and management of conflict in romantic relationships and the development of self-concept in individuals from broken homes. This study uses a qualitative method with in-depth interviews with nine informants aged 19-25 who are currently or have been in romantic relationships and come from broken home families. The research results show that family background influences the way individuals perceive conflict thru various management patterns, ranging from contending, yielding, problem solving, to a combination of withdrawing and problem solving. This proves that romantic relationships provide a space for those from broken home backgrounds to portray a more positive self-image.]]>
