Abstract

This research is a pre-experimental study that aims to determine how effective the discovery learning model is on students' higher-order thinking skills for Class X MIPA 1 studies on the subject of redox reactions. The research design used is The One Group Pretest Posttest Design. The research subjects in this study were students of class X MIPA 1 SMA Negeri 5 Gowa. The results of descriptive analysis show the average normalized gain is 0.71, which means that the use of discovery learning models is effective with the high category on the high-level thinking skills of class X students, MIPA 1 SMA Negeri 5 Gowa on the subject of reduction and oxidation reactions. The results of hypothesis testing using the one-group Wilcoxon test for the average N-gain obtained the lowest wcount = 164.5 and the wtable value at the 0.05 confidence level = 151. This is shows H0 is accepted and H1 is failed, which means that the use of discovery learning models is not effective in significantly increasing the high-level thinking skills of students of class X MIPA 1 on the material of reduction and oxidation reactions.
