Abstract

The study was motivated by the low level of mathematical literacy among elementary school students, partticularly in plane gemoteri topics, wich is caused by high cognitive load and less contextual learning. Tihis study aims to determine the effect of LMCLT (Literacy Mathematichs Cognitive Load Theory) model in improving students mathematcs literacy. The methode iused in this research is Design-Based Research (DBR), with a quantitative approach, consisting of four stages problem analysis, solution development, implementation, and reflection. The subject of this study were elementary school students who were give treatment in the form of LMCLT based learning. The result showed an improvement in students mathematicals literacy skills, indicated by the increase in the average pretest score from 54.00 to 89.48 in the posttest, with N-Gain value of 0.8 categorized as high. Statistical test result also showed a significant difference between before and after the treartment. This improvement occurred because the LMCLT model is able to manage cognitive load through material simplification, adjustment of difficulty levels, and cotextual learning. In addition, student responses to the learning process were categorized as very positive. It can be concluded that the LMCLT model if effective in improving the mathematical literacy skill of elementary scholl students.
