This study examines the inner conflict of the main character in the novel Ayahku Bukan Pembohong by Tere Liye using Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic approach. Inner conflict is one of the most prominent psychological aspects in literary works, and the Freud approach enables researchers to analyze personality dynamics through three structures: id, ego, and superego. This study aims to (1) describe the manifestation of the id personality system that triggers inner conflict in the main character Dam, (2) analyze the role of the ego as a mediator between id drives and the demands of reality, and (3) identify the influence of the superego on the decisions and character development of the main character. The method used is descriptive qualitative with a literature review approach. Data in the form of narrative quotations were taken from the novel text, classified based on id, ego, and superego indicators, then interpreted hermeneutically. The results indicate that (1) Dam's id manifests in chronic disappointment, impulsivity, and anger due to childhood trauma; (2) the ego serves as a defense mechanism through assertiveness, logical thinking, and acceptance of reality; and (3) the superego becomes a conflict resolution agent through the internalization of values of honesty, filial piety, responsibility, and perseverance. Unlike previous studies, this research finds that the ethical-cultural superego in this novel does not function repressively but rather as a healing agent that leads the character toward psychological maturity. This novel is suitable as a character education medium in educational settings.
