Abstract

Introduction: Postpartum women frequently experience musculoskeletal discomfort, particularly back pain, which may interfere with maternal comfort, mobility, rest, and infant care. Effective management strategies are essential to support recovery and improve quality of life. Objective: This case report aims to describe the midwifery care provided to a postpartum mother experiencing moderate back pain following cesarean section, and to evaluate the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions. Methods: A 43-year-old woman, P10001, on the 30th day of the postpartum period after cesarean section, presented with moderate back pain (NRS, VAS, VRS, CPS, Wong Baker = 6). Comprehensive midwifery care was delivered over four sessions, including back pain education, instruction on proper body mechanics, warm compresses, balanced nutrition, psychological support, and effleurage back massage as the primary non-pharmacological intervention. Results: Following the interventions, pain intensity decreased from NRS 6 to 3. Improvements were observed in lumbar muscle relaxation, posture, mobility, sleep quality, and maternal ability to perform daily activities, breastfeeding, and infant care with greater comfort. Conclusion: Comprehensive midwifery care, particularly the application of effleurage back massage combined with education and supportive measures, proved effective in reducing postpartum back pain and enhancing maternal well-being. Non-pharmacological interventions represent a valuable strategy to improve quality of life during the postpartum period. Keywords: Post Sectio Caesarea, back pain, effleurage massage.
