Abstract

Supersonic suction from the ejector nozzle chamber creates a high vacuum effect. Supersonic suction is the high-speed suction from secondary suction effect of high-pressure flow velocity from the primary flow nozzle. Velocities in supersonic jet cores can reach more than 238 m/s. Many industrial and household machining applications make use of ejectors for creating a vacuum, transferring fluids, and handling solid materials. Ejectors for household machining applications are widely sold with various dimensions ranging from 0.25 to 2 inches. This study was conducted to determine the performance of each ejector by calculating the entrainment ratio value. This experimental study was carried using 3 ejectors measuring 0.5, 0.75 and 1 inch, respectively. The test was carried out by providing inlet pressure on the primary channel sides. The inlet pressure was varied successively from 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and 2.5 bar. The pressure variation was made by adjusting the bypass valve opening position on the primary channel. Measuring the flow discharge on the secondary flow and primary flow sides is necessary to calculate the mass flow rate on each side. The results obtained the entrainment ratio for each ejector size. The 0.5-inch ejector obtained the best performance of 37.1% with an inlet pressure of 2 bar. The 0.75-inch ejector obtained the best performance of 37.7% when the inlet pressure was 2.5 bar. An inlet pressure of 2.5 bar on the 1-inch ejector was able to provide the best performance of 34.5%. Ejector performance will achieve the maximum point if the nozzle geometry, pressure in the primary flow is appropriate. The study concluded that in the application of ejectors, it is necessary to consider the geometry, and the designed primary flow pressure.
