Limited access to electrical charging has encouraged the use of solar panels as an alternative energy source for electric vehicle charging systems. A prototype flexible charging system on the sunroof of an electric vehicle uses a 100 Wp monocrystalline solar panel based on the Internet of Things (IoT) and is designed to improve the efficiency and reliability of the battery charging process. The system consists of solar panels, an MPPT charge controller, a 15 Ah LiFePO₄ battery, a protection circuit, and an IoT module with notifications for real-time monitoring. Testing included solar panel characteristics, MPPT efficiency, battery charging process, protection performance, and IoT monitoring. Test results show that the solar panel is capable of generating a maximum power of up to ±96 W at peak conditions, while the MPPT works optimally with an efficiency in the range of ±88–94% in extracting the maximum power from the panel. The battery charging process was stable with an increase in State of Charge (SoC) of up to ±92% during three days of testing without excessive current surges. All protection features functioned properly, and the IoT monitoring system was able to reliably display voltage, current, and power parameters. This system demonstrates the potential for flexible solar-based charging on electric car sunroofs with remote monitoring capabilities.
