Work motivation is a key determinant influencing the performance of academic and administrative staff in higher education institutions. This study aims to examine the effect of motivation based on the Existence, Relationship, and Growth (ERG) theory on the performance of academic and administrative staff at Universitas Caritas Indonesia Manokwari. A quantitative explanatory research design was employed using a survey of 77 respondents selected through the total sampling technique. Data were collected through a structured questionnaire and analyzed using multiple linear regression. The results showed that relationship and growth motivation had positive and significant effects on performance, whereas existence motivation also had a significant effect but with a negative regression coefficient. Simultaneously, ERG motivation had a significant effect on performance, with an Adjusted R² of 0.860. These findings extend the empirical evidence supporting the application of ERG theory in higher education institutions in Eastern Indonesia and indicate that interpersonal relationships and self-development play a more prominent role in improving performance than material needs. The study provides practical implications for implementing evidence-based human resource management in developing human resource policies within higher education institutions.
