Dairy goats are an important source of milk, and improving their productivity depends on the use of genetic resources, estimation of genetic parameters, and appropriate selection tools. This review aimed to examine the genetic resources, genetic parameters, and genomic resources of dairy goats based on verifiable 2008–2017 literature. The review shows that the Peranakan Etawa (PE) goat is a cross between Etawa and Kacang goats and, in a study using 13 microsatellite markers on five Indonesian local goats, had the highest expected heterozygosity (0.540). Genetic parameters for production, reproduction, and productive life traits have been estimated in dairy goats, among others in US dairy goats. Goat genomic resources have developed rapidly through the domestic goat reference genome (2013), a 52K SNP chip based on about 12 million SNP variants (2014), and a new reference genome assembly (2017), and have been used in a genome-wide association study of coat color in Saanen goats (2016). Data on dairy goat genetic parameters in Indonesia and Banyumas Regency within the reviewed period were not found. Banyumas Regency had 184,734 goats in 2022, so recording of production and pedigree is needed as a basis for selection programs.
