Abstract

The Ogan River, part of the Musi River Basin, plays a vital role in the urban environment and the lives of the people of Palembang. It receives pollution from residential areas, domestic waste, tie-dye production, rubber processing, river transport, and coal mining. This study aimed to analyze water quality, identify dominant pollutant parameters, evaluate spatial patterns of pollution, and determine potential pollution sources and management priorities for the Ogan River. The study was conducted at eight locations based on land use characteristics and activities along the river. The parameters analyzed included physical characteristics, chemical characteristics, heavy metals, and inorganic compounds. Water quality status was analyzed using the Pollution Index, the ratio of exceedances of quality standards, and spatial changes in concentration. The results showed that turbidity exceeded the quality standard at all points with concentrations of 30.5-38.3 NTU, while color exceeded the quality standard at Points 2-8 with the highest concentration of 84.723 PtCo at Point 8. KMnO? of 21.85-27.527 mg/L and Fe of 0.312-0.688 mg/L also exceeded the quality standard at all points, while most other chemical and metal parameters still met the quality standard. Spatially, pollution pressure tends to increase towards the middle and downstream parts, with Points 4, 5, 7, and 8 as priority locations. Pollution is thought to originate from a combination of domestic and industrial waste, surface runoff, bank erosion, river transportation, sediment resuspension, and runoff from coal storage areas.
