Intrinsic motivation plays an important role in encouraging students’ engagement and persistence during the learning process. This study aims to describe the forms and factors reflecting the intrinsic motivation of fifth-grade students at UPT Satuan Pendidikan SDN 01 Karangtengah. A qualitative approach with a descriptive research design was employed. The participants consisted of a fifth-grade teacher and eight students purposively selected based on variations in their learning engagement characteristics. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. Data validity was examined through technique and source triangulation. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings identified three main factors reflecting students’ intrinsic motivation: the desire to succeed, internal drive and learning needs, and hopes and future aspirations. Intrinsic motivation was reflected in students’ active participation in learning, persistence in completing tasks, willingness to face learning challenges, and awareness of the benefits of learning for personal development and future goals. Teacher support and a positive learning environment also contributed to facilitating the development of students’ internal motivation. These findings highlight the importance of meaningful and challenging learning experiences that provide opportunities for students to develop learning autonomy and personal goals. Thus, strengthening intrinsic motivation requires learning experiences that encourage active participation, persistence, independence, and awareness of personal goals.
