Indonesian society is characterized by religious, ethnic, and cultural diversity, which may serve as social capital as well as a potential source of conflict if not properly managed. Multicultural social education is therefore essential to foster tolerance and social harmony. However, studies on multicultural education have predominantly focused on formal education, while the role of pesantren has received limited scholarly attention. This study aims to analyze the role of Pondok Pesantren Shofa Marwa Jember as a foundation for multicultural social education in a plural society. Employing a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis involving pesantren leaders, teachers, students, and community members. The findings reveal that values of tolerance, mutual respect, togetherness, and social care are internalized through students’ collective life, the integration of religious and formal education, and pesantren religious traditions. These results indicate that pesantren function as contextual social education institutions that are highly relevant to strengthening multicultural education.
