Abstract

Studies in Qur'anic philosophy have so far focused on exploring the philosophical values contained in Qur'anic verses, while reflection on the nature, methods, and boundaries of the discipline remains relatively limited. This situation has resulted in the lack of a solid epistemological foundation for distinguishing Qur'anic philosophy from philosophical interpretation, Islamic philosophy, and contemporary hermeneutical approaches. This study aims to analyze the nature of Qur'anic metaphilosophy as a philosophical foundation for developing Qur'anic philosophy, explain the methodological construction of the relationship between revelation, reason, and philosophy, identify the epistemological boundaries of the use of philosophy in understanding the Qur'an, and formulate a more integrative paradigm for developing Qur'anic philosophy. The study employed a qualitative approach with a literature review method. Data were obtained from primary literature in the form of tafsir books, works on Islamic philosophy, scholars of the Qur'an, and literature on metaphilosophy and hermeneutics. This was then supported by relevant scientific articles. Data analysis was conducted through content analysis, conceptual analysis, and a philosophical hermeneutic approach. The results indicate that the Metaphilosophy of the Qur'an is a second-order inquiry that serves to build ontological, epistemological, methodological, and axiological foundations for the Philosophy of the Qur'an. This research also offers an integrative paradigm that positions revelation as the primary source of knowledge, reason as the analytical instrument, and a transdisciplinary approach as a framework for developing contemporary Qur'anic studies.
