Peer teaching is an instructional method that provides students with opportunities for active participation through interaction, explanation, discussion, and peer-to-peer assistance. This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of the peer teaching method in enhancing the reading interest of fourth-grade students during Indonesian language lessons at SD Negeri Mendongan. The study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method and a pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects consisted of 30 students divided into an experimental group and a control group, with 15 students in each. Data were collected via reading interest tests, questionnaires, and observations, and subsequently analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality tests, homogeneity tests, and independent t-tests. The results revealed a significant difference in reading interest between the experimental and control groups regarding both test scores (t(28) = 3.695; p = 0.001) and questionnaire responses (t(28) = 8.073; p = 0.001). Students who participated in peer teaching demonstrated higher levels of reading interest compared to those who received conventional instruction. Thus, the peer teaching method is effective and serves as a viable instructional alternative for increasing the reading interest of fourth-grade elementary school students.
