Abstract

Desa Mantang Lama, located in Bintan Regency faces significant challenges in managing plastic waste, despite its great potential in marine resources and cultural heritage, particularly the traditional performing art of Mak Yong. This community service program aimed to transform plastic waste into Eco Paving Blocks and integrate them as construction materials for an iconic monument representing the local cultural identity of Mak Yong. The program employed a three-stage method consisting of preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The preparation stage included site observation, the collection of materials and equipment, and the presentation of the program to village officials. The implementation stage involved trials of Eco Paving Block production, community socialization and training, and the construction of an iconic village monument featuring Mak Yong mask ornaments. The evaluation stage was conducted through interviews with two randomly selected community representatives using the Context, Input, Process, Product (CIPP) evaluation model, which consists of four components: Context, Input, Process, and Product. The results showed that the program successfully produced 40 Eco Paving Blocks from plastic waste collected from the landfill and surrounding areas, which were subsequently used to construct the iconic monument. The community response was highly positive, with participants expressing their willingness to continue the program independently due to its simple production process and low cost. The inaugurated monument was also appreciated as an effective promotional medium for Mak Yong performing arts. This program demonstrates that producing Eco Paving Blocks can provide an innovative alternative for utilizing plastic waste while simultaneously strengthening the authentic cultural identity of Mak Yong in Desa Mantang Lama.
