Previous studies on Quraish Shihab’s concept of nāsikh-mansūkh have largely examined its theoretical formulation or application in Tafsir al-Mishbah, leaving its operation in the concise Tafsir al-Lubāb insufficiently examined. This study analyzes Quraish Shihab’s conceptualization and application of nāsikh-mansūkh in Tafsir al-Lubāb and evaluates the consistency between his theoretical framework and exegetical practice. Using qualitative library research, the study employs content analysis and a descriptive-analytical approach to examine twenty themes identified through al-Suyūṭī’s classification of nāsikh-mansūkh, supported by literary triangulation with classical and contemporary sources. The findings show that Shihab does not reduce nāsikh-mansūkh to the total abrogation of previous rulings. Instead, its application in al-Lubāb operates through six interpretive patterns: legal refinement and affirmation, al-tadarruj (gradual legislation), situational law, bayān wa tafṣīl (explanation and specification), takhfīf (legal relief), and legal restriction or restructuring. The analysis also identifies limited inconsistencies between Shihab’s emphasis on al-tadarruj and its application in several cases, shaped by the concise and practical character of al-Lubāb, Indonesia’s plural socio-political context, and his contextual hermeneutical orientation. Scientifically, this study contributes a systematic typology of nāsikh-mansūkh in Tafsir al-Lubāb and demonstrates how classical Qur’anic sciences are negotiated with contemporary interpretive needs.
