This study explores the efforts of Akidah Akhlak teachers in strengthening students’ religious character at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Sunan Ampel Merangin, Jambi Province. A qualitative case study approach was employed to gain a comprehensive understanding of the practices implemented within the school environment. Data were collected through interviews with the principal, Akidah Akhlak teachers, students, and alumni, as well as observations and document analysis. The results indicate that the development of students’ religious character is carried out through several interconnected strategies, including the habituation of congregational prayers, moral guidance, exemplary conduct demonstrated by teachers, and regular supervision of students’ daily activities. The study also identifies several factors that support the implementation of these strategies, such as the pesantren-based educational environment, adequate facilities, and teachers’ continuous encouragement. Meanwhile, challenges arise from students’ misuse of smartphones, feelings of boredom associated with the boarding school routine, and differences in family religious backgrounds. The implementation of these strategies has contributed to observable changes in students’ behavior, including improved Qur’anic reading skills, greater consistency in performing congregational prayers, and stronger adherence to Islamic values in daily interactions. The findings highlight the importance of a supportive educational environment in fostering religious character and demonstrate that character education becomes more effective when integrated into students’ everyday experiences both inside and outside the classroom.
