Abstract This study is motivated by the low ability of students in solving statistical problems due to abstract and less contextual learning approaches. This study aims to explore students’ statistical problem-solving processes through ethnomathematics-based learning integrated with local wisdom. This research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design. The subjects were students enrolled in a statistics course, selected purposively. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that students find it easier to understand problems when presented in the context of local wisdom; however, they still face difficulties in planning strategies, executing solutions accurately, and reflecting on their results. The study concludes that ethnomathematics-based learning with local wisdom supports students’ contextual understanding in statistical problem solving, but it needs to be complemented with conceptual reinforcement and reflective skills development.
