Abstract

Dating violence among adolescents is a public health problem that continues to increase in Indonesia, South Tangerang is an area with a high incidence rate, recorded as many as 226 cases. The purpose of this study was to analyze factors related to dating violence among adolescents in South Tangerang in 2025. The study used a mixed methods design with a sequential explanatory approach. Quantitative data were obtained through a survey of 266 adolescents with a purposive sampling technique. The results showed a significant relationship (p<0.05) between age (p=0.019), knowledge (p=0.005), attitude (p=0.009), experience of violence (p=0.0001), social support (p=0.018), length of relationship (p=0.044), relationship inequality (p=0.005), and gender inequality (p=0.0001) with the incidence of dating violence among adolescents in South Tangerang. The most dominant factor in dating violence among adolescents is social support with a POR value of 0.323. Qualitative findings from in-depth interviews revealed that adolescents tended to normalize possessive and controlling behaviors, and that peer social support significantly influenced their decision to exit unhealthy relationships. These findings underscore the critical role of social support as a protective factor against adolescent dating violence and provide empirical evidence for the development of school-based, peer-focused prevention programs that integrate knowledge enhancement, gender-awareness training, and social support strengthening.
