Abstract

One strategy in implementing family planning programs is to increase the use of long-acting contraceptives, considered the most effective way to control population growth. The Intra Uterine Device (IUD) is an effective contraceptive method for preventing or delaying pregnancy. Despite the government's target coverage for all contraceptive methods in Batam City, only 4% use IUD, falling short of the 15.9% target. This study aims to explore the relationship between husband support, sociocultural factors, and the low utilization of IUD contraception. The research employed an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional approach, involving 70 respondents, representing the entire fertile-age couples population. Chi-square test results indicated a significant relationship between independent variables—husband support (p-value = 0.001) and sociocultural factors (p-value = 0.002)—and the use of IUD contraception among fertile-age couples. In conclusion, husband support and sociocultural factors influence the utilization of IUD contraception. Recommendations include encouraging fertile-age couples to enhance their knowledge of family planning, particularly focusing on effective methods, to raise awareness of the importance of contraception. This, in turn, can motivate individuals to manage and plan for an ideal number of children, ensuring their well-being and quality of life.

Abstract

The quality of nutrition during early stages profoundly influences an individual's health as they approach reproductive age. Adequate nutritional intake, particularly through complementary breastfeeding (MP-ASI), plays a crucial role in this regard. Information about MP-ASI, acquired through sensory perception, notably sight and hearing, is essential for effective implementation. However, many mothers lack sufficient knowledge in this area, which can impact child nutrition adversely. This study aims to determine the description of mothers' knowledge of complementary breastfeeding and the dietary status of children aged 6 to 12 months in the Bonto Bangun Community Health Center, Bulukumba Regency. Utilizing a cross-sectional research design, data were collected from a sample of 67 individuals through incidental sampling and questionnaire administration. The findings reveal that a significant portion of mothers (70.37%) lacked adequate knowledge regarding complementary breastfeeding practices, leading to suboptimal child dietary status. This deficiency in knowledge is attributed to low levels of education among respondents and insufficient guidance from healthcare providers on complementary feeding practices. Addressing these gaps in maternal knowledge and healthcare provider training is imperative for improving child nutrition outcomes in Bulukumba and similar regions. By enhancing awareness and education regarding complementary breastfeeding practices, healthcare interventions can effectively promote optimal child nutrition and development.

Abstract

Lower back pain (LBP) is a condition where a person feels pain in the lower back, the pain felt can originate from the structures in the lower back, including joints, muscles, bones, nerves, ligaments and others. LBP sufferers can incur quite large costs in their treatment, apart from that LBP can also cause a lack of working days because of productivity limitation. Factors that can influence the occurrence of LBP are age, gender, occupation, body mass index, smoking habits and many more. The aim of this study is to determine the characteristics of LBP patients at the Sorong Regency general hospital (RSUD) in 2022. This research uses a descriptive observational design. This research took place from September to October 2023 at the Sorong Regency General Hospital. Data collection was obtained from secondary data with a sample size of 77 LBP patients from January to December 2022. The results of this study show that LBP patients at Sorong Regency General Hospital from January to December 2020 were mostly in the 46-55 age year group, totaling 26 patients (33.8%), predominantly occurred to female with 43 patients (55.8%) who worked as housewives totaling 33 patients (42.9%), Non-Papuan ethnic group category amounting to 42 patients (54.5%) and most had overweight body mass index (BMI) of 23-24.9 kg/m2 totaling 33 patients (42.9%). The conclusion is that LBP predominantly affected individuals aged 46–55 years, with a higher incidence in females, particularly housewives. Most patients belonged to the Non-Papuan ethnic group and had an overweight body mass index. These results provide an overview of the demographic and clinical profiles of LBP patients in the region, which may support better-targeted prevention and treatment strategies.

Abstract

Adolescence is a transitional stage filled with biopsychosocial and environmental challenges. Teenagers often face difficulties in managing these challenges, which may lead to health issues, including risky sexual behavior driven by curiosity or desire, involving either the opposite or same sex. The rising incidence of adolescent health problems underscores the need for equitable and integrated interventions that support clean and healthy lifestyles, as well as strong social and life skills. One approach is the establishment of adolescent-friendly health services, such as integrated service posts (Posyandu Remaja), which serve as platforms for health education, counseling, and reproductive health services tailored to adolescent needs. This study aims to map existing evidence on the role of adolescent health services in shaping reproductive health behavior. A scoping review was conducted using national journal databases, Google Scholar, and ResearchGate, focusing on full-text Indonesian-language articles from 2018 to 2023. Five relevant studies were identified, covering various regions and research designs. The findings show that adolescents who actively participate in Posyandu Remaja tend to exhibit better reproductive health behavior. This suggests that adolescent health services play a key role in promoting healthy reproductive choices. Strengthening these services is essential to support adolescent well-being and development.

Abstract

The Bajo tribe in Bajo Bahari Village, Buton Regency, has long practiced the cultural tradition of Mamandi Boe Asieng Panas, a hot bath using salty water. This practice is believed by traditional birth attendants and the local community to expedite the healing process for mothers who have recently given birth. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Mamandi Boe Asieng Panas tradition on the speed of uterine involution in postpartum mothers. The research method was quasi-experimental, involving an intervention where postpartum women underwent Mamandi Boe Asieng Panas after giving birth. The height of the fundus uteri (in cm) was measured on the third and seventh days postpartum. The results indicated a significant effect, with a p-value of 0.000 and a 95% confidence interval mean difference of 3.25 (21-56-22). In conclusion, postpartum women who received the Mamandi Boe Asieng Panas intervention experienced a faster decrease in uterine involution compared to those who did not participate in the tradition.

Abstract

The rate of exclusive breastfeeding in infants in Indonesia is still low, at 59.6% compared to the national target of 80%. The low rate of exclusive breastfeeding is influenced by various factors, one of which is husband support. The support provided by husbands, such as expressing love and providing assistance and appreciation to mothers, and the low employment status of mothers in providing exclusive breastfeeding, particularly for working mothers, significantly affect breastfeeding practices. This study aims to investigate the correlation between husband support, employment status, and exclusive breastfeeding in the Tanjung Buntung Community Health Center area. The research method employed is descriptive analytics with a Cross-Sectional approach. The study population consists of mothers with infants aged 0-6 months, with purposive sampling used to select 60 respondents. The bivariate test results reveal a significant correlation between husband support and exclusive breastfeeding (p-value=0.001) and a significant correlation between employment status and exclusive breastfeeding (p-value=0.001). In conclusion, this research indicates a relationship between husband support, the mother's employment status, and exclusive breastfeeding in infants. Recommendations for healthcare professionals include providing continuous education to husbands to support mothers in the breastfeeding process and encouraging breastfeeding mothers to maintain exclusive breastfeeding practices.

Abstract

Low birth weight infants (LBW) are infants who weigh less than 2500 grams at birth regardless of the gestation period and can occur in full-term or premature infants. LBW is one of the most common causes of infant mortality in Batam City in 2022. This study aims to determine the relationship of integrated antenatal care examination to the incidence of LBW at Harapan Bunda Hospital Batam in 2023. This type of research uses a retrospective study with secondary data in the form of medical records of laboring mothers in January-October 2023 taken at Harapan Bunda Hospital. The population used in this study were mothers who gave birth to LBW babies. Sampling with total sampling and the number of research samples obtained was 96 samples. Data analysis used was univariate and bivariate analysis. Bivariate analysis used the Chi-Square statistical test. The results showed that 38 mothers had complete antenatal care who experienced LBW and 58 mothers who had incomplete antenatal care who experienced LBW. There is a relationship between antenatal care and the incidence of low birth weight at Harapan Bunda Hospital Batam in 2023 with a p-value of 0.027. It is expected that health workers and midwives can socialize with the community, especially pregnant women, about the importance of conducting antenatal care visits at least 6 times during pregnancy.

Abstract

During menstruation, prostaglandins induce uterine contractions, which contribute to the thickening of the endometrial mucosa and the constriction of blood vessels. Elevated levels of prostaglandins may influence C-Reactive Protein (CRP) levels, a marker that increases in response to inflammation or infection as part of the body's immune response. This study aimed to examine CRP levels in female students during menstruation. A descriptive research design was employed to assess CRP levels in menstruating female students. The sample consisted of blood serum collected from 30 students at Madrasah Aliyah Pondok Pesantren Pembangunan Ushuluddin in Singkawang City. The results showed that among the participants, 5 students aged 16 and 1 student aged 15 exhibited positive CRP levels. Regarding the duration of menstruation, positive CRP levels were detected in 4 students on the first day, 1 student on the second day, and 1 student on the third day. Overall, 20% of the students showed positive CRP levels, while 80% had negative CRP levels. The conclusion indicates that a subset of menstruating female students exhibited elevated CRP levels, particularly during the early days of menstruation. This suggests that menstruation, likely through prostaglandin-induced inflammation, may be associated with an increase in CRP levels in some individuals.
