Reading comprehension is an essential skill for elementary school students in understanding information contained in texts. This study aims to analyze the factors related to the reading comprehension ability of fifth-grade students at SDN Loang Tuna, Central Lombok. The study employed a descriptive qualitative approach involving the fifth-grade teacher and 22 students as research subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that four factors were related to students’ reading comprehension ability, namely reading interest, vocabulary mastery, school environment, and parental attention. Of the 22 students, 7 students showed low reading interest, 5 students had limited vocabulary mastery, 4 students showed a relationship between the school environment and the reading process, and 6 students experienced limited parental attention. These factors were related to students’ difficulties in understanding the content of texts, identifying main and supporting ideas, drawing conclusions, and understanding the messages conveyed in the texts. Therefore, reading comprehension ability is related to students’ internal conditions as well as support from the school environment and family.
