Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) is a common musculoskeletal complaint that can interfere with daily activities and quality of life among older adults. Limited knowledge regarding appropriate non-pharmacological management was identified among older adults at Posyandu Lansia RW 05, Ledug Village. This community service activity aimed to improve older adults’ knowledge about William Flexion exercises as a non-pharmacological approach to managing LBP. The activity involved 30 participants and was conducted through health education, demonstrations, and practical exercises using PowerPoint presentations, leaflets, and educational videos. Participants completed knowledge questionnaires before and after the educational intervention. Before education, 20 participants (66.67%) had poor knowledge, 9 (30%) had moderate knowledge, and 1 (3.33%) had good knowledge. After education, 26 participants (87%) had good knowledge, 4 (13%) had moderate knowledge, and none had poor knowledge. The activity demonstrated an improvement in participants’ knowledge regarding LBP management through William Flexion exercises. The use of various educational media and direct demonstrations helped participants understand the exercise movements and their potential benefits. The activity is expected to encourage older adults to apply William Flexion exercises independently as part of non-pharmacological LBP management in daily life.
