The low initial reading ability of students in class IA at SDN 03 Alai, Padang city is the background of the research with the aim of improving early reading ability using Word Card Media with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The type of PTK (Non-Classroom Research) research is two cycles. It consists of two meetings on each cycle. The research subjects of class IA students of SDN 03 Alai Padang amounted to 28 students. The instruments used were teacher observation sheets, student observation sheets and students' initial reading ability tests.
