Abstract

Rights and obligations are two important elements that complement each other in student life as part of the academic community. This research aims to explore how students of the Management Study Program of PGRI Adi Buana University Surabaya understand and apply the balance between their rights and obligations, especially in the context of participatory democracy in the campus environment. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection methods through interviews, documentation, and literature analysis. The results show that although students understand the importance of balancing rights, such as freedom of opinion and the right to education, with obligations such as learning and obeying campus rules, their participation in campus democracy is still relatively low. The main factors that affect this include lack of socialization, weak motivation, and limited time. These findings underscore the need for an integrated strategy to increase students' awareness of the importance of balancing rights and obligations, as well as encourage their active participation in campus democracy. The implication of this research is the importance of forming an academic culture that supports active student involvement to create a democratic, harmonious, and inclusive campus environment.

Abstract

The low initial reading ability of students in class IA at SDN 03 Alai, Padang city is the background of the research with the aim of improving early reading ability using Word Card Media with the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model. The type of PTK (Non-Classroom Research) research is two cycles. It consists of two meetings on each cycle. The research subjects of class IA students of SDN 03 Alai Padang amounted to 28 students. The instruments used were teacher observation sheets, student observation sheets and students' initial reading ability tests. The optimization of initial reading ability from the observation results of the average percentage of teacher activity in the first cycle of 70.00% increased to 90.00% in the second cycle. Likewise, the results of observation of student activities averaged 67.00% in cycle I increased to 92.5% in cycle II. In the student learning outcomes in cycle I, out of 28 students there are still 7 people who are not good at reading. In the second cycle of 28 students, there were 2 people who were not good at reading. This can be proven from the initial reading test score in the first cycle of 76.4 with a percentage of 75%, there was an increase in the second cycle to 85 with a percentage of 92.8%. Thus, it can be concluded that there is an increase in initial reading using the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model using Word Card Media in grade IA students of SDN 03 Alai, Padang city.
