This study examines the relationship between students' perceived readiness and their conceptual understanding of the topic of two-variable linear equation systems (SPLDV) among ninth-grade students at SMP Negeri 16 Singkawang. Using a quantitative correlation research design, data were collected from 31 participants through a self-reported questionnaire measuring self-preparedness and a conceptual understanding test assessing mastery of SPLDV. Spearman's rank correlation coefficient was used for data analysis because the preparedness scale was ordinal. The results showed a statistically significant positive correlation (ρ = 0.506, p = 0.004), indicating that students who reported higher levels of learning readiness tended to demonstrate a deeper conceptual understanding of SPLDV. These results highlight the importance of developing students' internal readiness as a strategic pathway to strengthening mathematical understanding. Therefore, educators are encouraged to integrate practices that enhance readiness early in learning to support meaningful concept mastery in mathematics.
