Abstract

If the history of technology were analogized to 24 hours, then changes would occur in increasingly shorter periods, especially in the last hour, even in minutes and seconds. However, after centuries have passed, it is necessary to re-examine the original meaning of 'technē', which actually emphasizes the 'state of the art' or excellence in the form of the best unique abilities possessed by each individual. These aspects need to be redeveloped, especially with the emergence of technologies like Artificial Intelligence, which raises questions regarding what unique human capabilities cannot be replicated by the machines we create. Furthermore, design is also being critically re-examined as the materialization of values, not sterilized from critical analyses such as cultural studies and critiques of capitalism from left-wing thinkers. This will become clearer in a critical review of design, which plays a significant role in changing human lifestyles and self-image. Through the discussion of these three aspects, it is hoped that design education and the design profession can have a better vision and role for human life.
