This study analyzes community perspectives on the implementation of Indonesia’s Free Nutritious Meals Program (MBG) at Anda Luri Catholic Elementary School and Waingapu 3 Public Elementary School in East Sumba Regency. A qualitative case study was conducted with purposively selected school principals, teachers, pupils, parents, and a media representative. Data were gathered through interviews, observation, and documentation, then organized through data reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing using the stimulus, organism, and response framework. Source, method, and time triangulation supported the credibility of the findings. Both schools involved teachers in receiving and distributing meals, but delivery delays, repetitive menus, and concerns about portion size, food quality, and safety persisted. A suspected food poisoning incident initially heightened caution at Anda Luri, while acceptance at Waingapu 3 remained relatively stable despite operational complaints. Participants supported continuation of the program while requesting more reliable delivery and stronger food quality controls. The study reflects recipients’ perspectives because direct interviews with the meal service provider could not be obtained.
