The low academic skills of students in mathematics learning, particularly in pictogram and diagram materials, served as the background of this study. This condition is reflected in the lack of student activeness in the learning process, low critical thinking skills, and suboptimal learning outcomes. This study aims to improve the academic skills of fourth-grade students at MI Nurul Ulum Bandar Lampung through the implementation of the Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) model. This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles consisting of four meetings, namely Cycle I Meeting 1, Cycle I Meeting 2, Cycle II Meeting 1, and Cycle II Meeting 2. The subjects of the study were 29 students. Data collection techniques included observation of teacher and student activities and learning outcome tests (post-tests). The results showed a significant improvement in each cycle. In Cycle I, student activities were still in the sufficient to good category, and learning outcomes were still low. However, in Cycle II, there was a significant improvement, where teacher activities reached the very good category, student activities were in the good category, and post-test results increased with an average of 36.52 or 91.29%, categorized as very good. Thus, the Inquiry Based Learning model is proven effective in improving students’ academic skills in mathematics learning at the elementary school level.
