Abstract

The development of K-Pop culture in Indonesia has encouraged the increasing intensity of interactions between fans and their idols through various social media platforms. Continuous exposure to K-Pop idol content on social media enables fans to form parasocial relationships, which are one-sided emotional attachments toward media figures without direct reciprocal interaction. This phenomenon potentially shapes romantic beliefs among fans, referring to individuals’ idealized beliefs about love and romantic relationships. This phenomenon is particularly relevant among emerging adults, as individuals at this developmental stage are in the process of exploring identity, emotional intimacy, and expectations regarding romantic relationships. This study employed a quantitative correlational approach using purposive sampling technique. The participants consisted of 265 respondents aged 18–25 years who actively use social media as K-Pop fans. The research instruments used were the Parasocial Relationship Scale (PRS) developed by Claessens and Van den Bulck (2015) and the Romantic Beliefs Scale (RBS) developed by Sprecher and Metts (1989). Data analysis was conducted using Pearson Product Moment correlation technique. The results showed a positive relationship between parasocial relationship and romantic beliefs (r = 0.339; p < 0.01). These findings indicate that the higher the intensity of parasocial relationship experienced by K-Pop idol fans, the higher the romantic beliefs possessed by individuals.
