Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) have increasingly been recognized as institutions capable of promoting socio-economic empowerment. However, previous studies have predominantly examined pesantren entrepreneurship through fragmented case studies, leaving limited conceptual synthesis regarding business development models that support institutional economic independence. This study aims to synthesize the existing literature to identify strategic business development models, supporting factors, and the transformation of pesantren into economically independent Islamic educational institutions. Employing a qualitative Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, the study synthesizes scholarly publications through structured stages comprising literature identification, selection, critical appraisal, data extraction, and thematic synthesis. The findings reveal that pesantren economic independence is built upon the integration of social capital, Islamic values, entrepreneurial education, and professional institutional governance through business sectors such as cooperatives, agribusiness, halal industries, and creative enterprises. The novelty of this study lies in proposing a conceptual framework that positions pesantren not merely as entrepreneurship-based educational institutions but as integrated socio-economic ecosystems combining educational, spiritual, and productive economic functions. Theoretically, this research enriches the discourse on Islamic educational management by integrating entrepreneurship and institutional sustainability perspectives. Practically, the findings provide strategic guidance for pesantren leaders and policymakers in designing sustainable economic empowerment programs based on institutional resources and Islamic values
