<![CDATA[Melinjo (Gnetum gnemon L.) is one of the plants which leaves can be used as antibacterial of the issuediarrhea problem because melinjo leaves contains alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins and tannins. One ofthe caused diarrhea is bacterium Escherichia coli. The purpose of this study was to determine theactivity and effectiveness of the antibacterial ethanol extract of melinjo leaves against Escherichia colibacteria. This study included the type of experimental research was conducted in the Mikrobiologylaboratory and Farmakognosi laboratory at Academy of Pharmacy of Putra Indonesia Malang. Thisresearch used diffusion method of wells with concentrations of 10% w/v, 20% w/v, 30% w/v, 40% w/v,50% w/v, 60% w/v, 70% w/v, 80% w/v, 90% w/v, and 100% w/v. Result of the study showed that ethanolextract of melinjo leaves can inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli bacteria. Effective concentration ofantibacterial against Escherichia coli was 90% w/v.
