This study aimed to describe the types of figurative language (majas) used by grade X.3 students of SMA Negeri Plus Provinsi Riau in writing poetry, to identify the most dominant figure of speech, and to analyze its meaning and function through a stylistic approach. A descriptive qualitative method was used, with 32 student-authored poems as the data source, collected through documentation and reading-note-taking techniques, then analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that students used three types of figurative language, namely personification, metaphor, and hyperbole, with personification being the most dominant, followed by metaphor, while hyperbole appeared in only a small number of poems. The dominance of personification reflects students' tendency to animate objects around the dining table to build emotional atmosphere, while metaphor and hyperbole were used to strengthen symbolic meaning and emphasis. It can be concluded that grade X.3 students already possess a basic sensitivity to figurative language, although the variation of figures of speech used still needs to be developed through more varied poetry-writing instruction.
