Abstract

Waxy corn has potential as a food commodity, however its productivity still needs to be improved through the application of appropriate cultivation technologies. This study aimed to evaluate the growth and yield responses of waxy corn to the application of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) combined with NPK fertilizer. The study used a factorial Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with two factors, namely PGPR at four levels (0, 10, 20, and 30 ml/L) and NPK fertilizer at three levels (0, 5, and 10 g/plant). There were 12 treatment combinations with three replications and three sample plants per treatment, resulting in 108 experimental units. The observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, time of male flower emergence, number of ears, ear length, ear diameter, fresh ear weight, number of kernels per row, root weight, and sweetness level. The data were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), followed by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at the 5% significance level. The results showed that the application of PGPR and NPK fertilizer significantly affected the growth and yield of waxy corn. The best treatment was obtained with the application of PGPR at 20 ml/L and NPK fertilizer at 10 g/plant. The interaction between PGPR and NPK fertilizer significantly affected the number of leaves, number of ears, ear length, ear diameter, fresh ear weight, root weight, and sweetness level.
