Abstract

Tourism-based creative economies require distinctive souvenirs that draw on local resources and reflect regional cultural identities. Preliminary observations around the Reog Ponorogo Statue tourism site indicated that some souvenirs were sourced from outside the region, suggesting opportunities to strengthen local production. This community empowerment study aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of members of Karangtaruna Panca Manunggal Anderpati in Carangrejo Village, Ponorogo, through training in resin souvenir production using natural materials. Twenty-two participants took part in a needs assessment, preparation of tools and materials, technical training, guided production, locally inspired design development, and introductory digital marketing activities. The evaluation was structured around Kirkpatrick's four levels—reaction, learning, behaviour, and results—while changes in assessed competence were examined using pretests, posttests, and normalized gain (N-gain). The overall mean assessment score increased from 48.77 to 82.27. Mean scores also increased in resin material knowledge (48 to 83), natural-material selection (52 to 86), moulding and finishing techniques (45 to 81), and digital marketing competence (40 to 78). N-gain values ranged from 0.63 to 0.71, corresponding to moderate-to-high improvement under the adopted classification. Participants produced souvenir prototypes incorporating natural materials and design elements inspired by Ponorogo's cultural tourism. The findings therefore document improved assessment performance and immediate application of practical skills within the participating group. Production continuity and effects on sales or income were not evaluated.
