This community service program aims to empower older women in the Family Welfare Movement (PKK) group in Sungai Sapih Urban Village, Padang City, by enhancing their knowledge and awareness of skin protection against ultraviolet (UV) radiation and identifying barriers to sunscreen use. The program employed a participatory approach involving educational sessions, practical activities, and demonstrations. Program evaluation was conducted using pre-test and post-test instruments. The data were analyzed descriptively and using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results showed that the knowledge scores (range: 0–12) of the 22 participants who completed both assessments (mean age: 58.6 years; 15 participants aged 60 years or older) increased from 9.18 to 10.45, representing a mean gain of 1.27 points (p = 0.003). The proportion of participants classified as having good knowledge also increased from 50.0% to 68.2%. The most frequently reported barriers to sunscreen use were forgetting to apply it and not knowing which products were suitable. However, self-reported sunscreen use habits did not change significantly. These findings indicate that the educational intervention improved participants' knowledge, although sustained changes in sunscreen use habits may require continued assistance and follow-up support.
