Purpose – This study evaluates the effectiveness of the Postgraduate Matriculation Program at Makassar State University in equalizing the foundational competencies of new postgraduate students from non-linear educational backgrounds, particularly in the Department of Vocational and Technology Education (PTK). Methods – This evaluative study employed a data triangulation approach using questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. Questionnaires were distributed to 18 PTK students from Classes A and B, while in-depth interviews involved four purposively selected students. Data were analyzed using the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model. Findings – The matriculation program was generally effective, achieving an overall mean score of 3.86 out of 5.00 (Good category). The strongest aspect was lecturer–student interaction, especially constructive and responsive lecturer feedback. Facilities and learning resources received the lowest score (3.72) and were the most frequently reported concern. In total, 61.1% of students rated the program as good to excellent, while 38.9% rated it fair or poor. These findings indicate that the program supports students’ academic adaptation but still requires several improvements. Research implications – The study was limited by the small sample size and focus on a single department. Recommendations include improving classroom facilities and internet infrastructure, enriching PTK-specific curriculum content, developing structured digital modules, and providing individual consultation sessions. Originality – This study contributes to limited research on postgraduate matriculation program evaluation in Indonesian higher education using the CIPP model and a mixed data approach.
