Abstract

Entisols of the Psamment suborder typically exhibit a predominantly sandy texture, low organic matter content, and poorly developed soil horizons. However, field observations in South Singkawang revealed that soils in the area frequently become waterlogged following rainfall, suggesting the influence of other physical factors—such as a dominance of fine fractions or an impermeable layer—on soil water dynamics. This study aimed to examine the correlation between soil textural fractions and field capacity moisture content in tidal-influenced Entisols in Sedau Urban Village, Singkawang City, by analyzing soil physical and chemical properties. Soil samples were collected from paddy fields and shrubland areas using a random sampling method across 14 observation points. Analyzed parameters included textural fractions, bulk density, total porosity, permeability rate, soil pH, redox potential, and organic carbon content. The samples were analyzed using regression, correlation tests, and paired tests. The results indicate that soil textural fraction composition influences field capacity moisture content in the tidal Entisols of Sedau Urban Village, Singkawang City. Soils with high sand content tend to have lower water-holding capacity, whereas increased silt and clay fractions contribute to higher soil water retention. These findings demonstrate that soil textural fractions are a critical factor determining the soil's capacity to retain water at field capacity.
