Abstract

This research raises the issue of water in the framework of the theme of world water day 2021, managing water to maintain life, in a review of hermeneutics theology. The main question to be answered is what is the contribution (study and solution) of hermeneutics theology to the problem of water in order to maintain life? This research includes literature research and is qualitative in nature which aims to construct meaning on selected reading sources. The method used is critical hermeneutic reading on written and selected sources as material to build a discourse on water. Critical hermeneutics is the art of understanding reality through virtue and practical action (phronesis) which starts from self-criticism and raises the morality of living just and good with other creatures, in this case with water. This study finds that through the study of hermeneutics theology, water is a sacred gift of God, namely God’s self-gift for the entire created world. Water is a public theological issue that crosses faiths and cultures, forming a cosmic interfaith and cultural fellowship that fertilizes each other in a sustainable web of life.

Abstract

This paper is a theological reflection of John 18:28-40. This theological reflection is used as a basic principle of living in the midst of the digital era, especially to fight the culture of fear of missing out (FOMO). This passage is part of the story of the passion of Jesus Christ. In the Gospel of John, the story of Jesus before Pilate is dominated by Jesus’ dialogue with Pilate. In this dialogue, Jesus is shown as the King who proclaims the truth but Pilate rejects this testimony of Jesus. With a strong element of drama in the Gospel of John, the readers of the Gospel will be invited to believe that truth is God’s revelation that requires human participatory communication. The theological reflection that I want to emphasize is that dialogue with Jesus leads people to the depths to understand the mystery of God. But people who are caught up in FOMO have a shallow view of life. People who experience FOMO actually experience isolation and loneliness and then look for shortcuts. Deep dialogue with Jesus is necessary to gain spiritual strength to face isolation and loneliness in life.

Abstract

This study is to explain the implication and relevance of a perichoresis communion of the Trinitarian God for a socio-political life. Relationship of the three persons of the triune God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) to one another reflects a profound equality as well as mutual respect though each has and exercises a different role to create a meaningful work together. These virtues of equality and mutual respect can serve as a model for our socio-political life in today’s world continuously marked by war, discrimination, injustice, poverty or totalitarianism. The research methodology used in this study is a library study of the concept of the fellowship of the Triune God, according to Leonardo Boff.. This study came to a conclusion that the respective model of Trinitarian perichoresis can really serve as a model of socio-political life and as encouragement to welcome and respect plurality as well as an improved democratic government

Abstract

Mary is a central figure in the Catholic Church. In fact, among the Christians, Mary who is a mere woman is more “popular” than Jesus who is God and savior. This can be seen in the Marian devotions and shrines which are far outnumber than the devotions and places of pilgrimage to Jesus. Mary is mother, not only for Jesus but also for the Church, that is, for all the faithful. This article will specifically discuss the life and role of Mary in the life of Jesus and the Church. Using the library research, this paper scrutinizes the Scriptures, the documents of the Church teachings, and some of liturgical texts which reveal the presence and the role of Mary in the life of Jesus and the Church. This article helps Christians to deep their knowledge and familiarity to Mary, and then to love her more and to emulate Her virtues in everyday life as believers.

Abstract

What Pope Francis said about environment crisis, then confirms what Heidegger had long thought. The paradigm, which Heidegger calls “framing” (gestell), then penetrates the world of politico-economy, so that the economy accepts any technological advances that bring benefits, regardless of the possible negative impact on humans and other creatures. In a profit mindset, there is no room for thinking about natural rhythms, phases of withering and regeneration, or about the complexity of ecosystems. Nature is only thought as an economic resource. To overcome this, humans need to be educated. Humans need to be aware that humans exist in a reciprocal relationship with nature. Human existence is not a separate thing from nature but exists in the same ecosystem. Furthermore, humans need to realize that participatory action to pay attention to nature is fundamentally compatible with cultivating a relationship with God. Panentheism encourages humans to respect creation, because in creation, God is not only present, but also continues to work in it.

Abstract

Jesus Christ remains the same yesterday, today and forever but changed humans can not help but think of Him differently (cf. Heb 13:8). The appreciation of the Christian faith in Jesus Christ continues to change in line with the context in which Christianity is located. Change requires everyone, both the Church, theologians, and even the people to conceptualize and discuss Jesus Christ in a new way so that Jesus Christ can be preached to different people. Michael Amaladoss contribute ideas on how Jesus Christ can be understood by people according to the context in which they live. He explain who Jesus Christ is using different methodological approaches. Amaladoss describe Jesus using images found in Asia. Through images, Amaladoss wants to show the inclusiveness of Jesus who is present for all people in all aspects of Asian life. Amaladoss reflects that Jesus, which fits the Asian context, must have a dialogue with Asian realities, namely poverty, cultural plurality, and religious plurality.
