Abstract

There are various efforts to achieve a cure: the effort through prayer, through the efforts of conventional medicine and the effort through alternative therapies. The fact that sometimes happens is that the methods that work in synergy but often walk alone or even contradictory. For Catholics, this can make the faithful confused and wondering. It can also cause the pros and cons of them. This study aims to formulate the principles of assessment of alternative therapies, in the light of the Catholic faith, as well as offering pastoral steps on alternative therapies. For that, researcher first learns the concepts of healing in Scripture, learns and explores the ins and outs of alternative therapies in detail in the traditions and culture of the East, conducts a review of some alternative therapies with the help of theoretical Physics of Electricity, Epigenetics, Quantum Physics, and Brain Wave theory. To that end, researcher uses the means of interviews with some practitioners of alternative therapies and conducts the study of supportive literature. After reflecting theologically the concept and practice of alternative therapies in the light of the Catholic faith, this research proposes the principles of assessment of the Church on alternative therapies and pastoral steps. With the wise principle of assessment, the Church can help the faithful to, with a clear conscience, take a critical attitude toward alternative therapies.

Abstract

The Indonesian Catholic Church should consider Pancasila as the code of ethics for the whole people of Indonesia, more than as an ideology like liberalism or communism. Pancasila could play an important role in the character building for the whole people of Indonesia, similar to the important role played by the Decalogue in the character building for the whole people of Israel in the Old Testament. The Indonesian Catholic Church might certainly be happy enough for the best practices of those five Indonesian core values, namely religiosity, humanity, national unity, democracy and social justice. But at the same time the Indonesian Catholic Church should be committed to giving her positive contributions to the whole people of Indonesia, especially through her continuous efforts to proclaim and to realize the Reign of God in this country

Abstract

In the Javanese culture, the wild Boar is a symbol of greed or avarice. In this article, boar as a symbol is seen as a language for expressing moral consciousness. Moral consciousness of the dangers of avarice has been started since the beginning of the Christian era and passed on to us through present time in the form of the Doctrine of the seven principal or deadly Sins. So here is presented the evolution of this consciousness perceiving greed as a moral problem, especially in the Biblical and Patristic tradition. Given that the use of wild Boar as a symbol of greed is associated with sociological background, the article shows also the reception of avarice as one of the seven deadly sins in the sociological science. These two different perspectives of how one speaks about avarice as a moral problem are useful to develop a more comprehensive understandings on avarice and a contextual language, expressing it as a moral issue that should never be overlooked in Indonesia.

Abstract

Diocese of Purwokerto idealizes a community of Gods Kingdom Church, which by then becomes a together movement of the Catholics in Diocese of Purwokerto. Each parish, including Parish Cathedral Kristus Raja of Purwokerto, makes a vision which is appropriate with the need and situation of the Catholics in this parish. The event of Aksi Puasa Pembangunan, becomes a method that is really suitable with the efforts of this Church in presenting a community which is communious internally and externally as well. In this research, the intention of APP, is not fully caught and comprehended by the Catholic people of Cathedral Kristus Raja of Purwokerto. Therefore APP meeting have not really helped the Cathedral to build its communitys identity. To make it more effective and efficient in presenting the ideal community, Cathedral Kristus Raja of Purwokerto needs to make some pastoral steps. It is hoped that APP can become a program to build a community which is holy, autonomic, mature, dynamic, growing in true brotherhood and becoming the light and salt of world.

Abstract

Gods act in Jesus Christ underlies the whole development of Pauls theology, particularly in his letter to the Romans, since it is the center of historical salvation, in which the past and the future are seen in a new approach. The cross, death and resurrection of Christ are the fulfilment of Old Testament prophecy, as well as the basis for anticipating eschatological salvation, and it makes Christ become son of God. The Christians, in their existence in Christ, while letting themself to be lead by the Holy Spirit, also participate in divine sonship, and through adoption as sons allowed to call God their Father. The Holy Spirit, then, becomes the key point of the new reality of the believers. The Holy Spirit leads them and, as much as their acceptance to the Holy Spirit, they will take part in new reality of Christ.

Abstract

Dalam peringatan tentang penemuan benua Amerika Latin oleh Christopher Columbus, suara para korban kerap tidak cukup diperdengarkan dan didengarkan. Bartolom de las Casas (1484-1566) sebagai nabiyang menyuarakan nasib mereka juga sering hanya dianggap sebagai tokoh yang melebih-lebihkan penderitaan mereka karena dia dikenal sebagai pembela mereka. Tulisan berikut ini bermaksud menuturkan aneka upaya Las Casas, sosial-ekklesial, politik-teologis dan akademik-apologetik dalam bingkai kisah hidupnya yang panjang, termasuk proses pertobatan-nya yang bertahap dan visi imannya. Bahan-bahan yang digunakan dalam tulisan ini, kumpulan tulisan Las Casas, diperkaya dengan temuan manuskrip baru dan interpretasi keseluruhan yang lebih seimbang. Gagasan-gagasan Las Casas sangat penting untuk mengritisi isyu penyebaran iman (evangelisasi), hak asasi dan kebebasan hidup-beragama.

Abstract

This writing is an attempt to discuss an ecotheology from the scientific point of view. The main sentence is that reflecting on the development of science which has ecological impacts could bring human beings to the awareness of their own lives, their relation with nature, and Gods presence in nature. The thoughts of two great minds, namely of Teilhard de Chardin and Robert Spitzer are being considered here and help reflect on the progress of science, mainly physics, chemistry, and biology in order to build this scientific-based ecotheology. This reflection holds its importance in todays world as we face ecological catastrophes. The culprit is humans voracity of energy to develop their lives, mainly in economic basis. Science that primarily serves human knowledge to search and find out the unknown regions of the universe is also able to serve the development of technology especially which generates energy. Since then, human beings exploit the sources of energy such as crude oil, coal, natural gas, and uranium, and in doing so they destroy Mother Nature and foul her with poisonous wastes.

Abstract

The 50th anniversary of The Second Vatican Council opening is an important moment to research the Catolic followers reception of Church teaching in The Second Vatican Councils documents. Focus of this research is the Church reception for Pastoral Constitution of Gaudium et Spes. The pastoral Constitution on the Church in the Modern World Gaudium et Spes is the longest and the most complex document produced by the Second Vatican Council. This document articulates the relationship between the church and the world. The Church reception for Gaudium et Spes can be detected from three points: the Church effort to teach, the Church understanding to this substance document, and various Church movement that implement Gaudium et Spes items teaching at the centre world.
