Abstract

Paper industry produces paper rolls called jumbo rolls using paper machines. The paper rolls are then cut into rolls with different widths. The widths of rolls are determined by the customers demands and the different number of ordered rolls so that it is necessary to have an organization of cutting pattern from a jumbo into small rolls. The organization of cutting pattern aims to minimize the number of jumbo rolls used and rest of cutting. This research implements a column generation method to solve the problem. The column generation method is one of the linear programming techniques for the problem of supplies cutting. The iteration of column generation method uses revised simplex and knapsack problem with the completion of branch-and-bound method. If a solution is not an integer, the solution is converted into the integer using the first-fit decreasing method. Then, a display program with MATLAB is made based on the column generation algorithm. In this program, the solution may be in form of the number of rolls or the weight of rolls.Numerical examples are then carried out to show the effectiveness of the method. Based on the result of the simulation, the optimal solution is obtained, namely the minimum number of jumbo rolls and rest for several incoming order cases. In comparison to the manual calculation commonly practiced by paper industry, the results are well fitted. However, for big problems our approach is better because manual calculation is almost impossible to be done due to the expanding number of possible cutting pattern combinations.

Abstract

In general, the present attendance system is using a paper file containing the signature column of the participating students and lecturers of the course. The problem that arises is the presence of signature due to the student's absence. Students in one sem ester must attend lectures as much as 75% of meetings held lecturers as the requirement to take the final exam of the semester. Student attendance calculations take a relatively long time for each course. For that in this research made cource attendance system based on radio frequency identification (RFID) and fingerprint. As RFID card used e -ID card. The result showed that the maximum e-KTP card reading distance of 2 cm and fingerprint ID reading with time between 1.945 to 2.227 seconds. The success rate of reading e-KTP card and fingerprint ID is 100%. The overall test of attendance system shows 100% success rate. Presence data is displayed in the GUI and stored in database and exported in .xls format. Keywords: RFID, Fingerprint, Presence, Visual Basic 6.0, MySQL, Arduino Mega 2560

Abstract

PT. XYZ is a company engaged in manufacturing of sanitary ware products. Various obstacles are faced by PT. XYZ in the course of its production, one of which is the problem of the quality of products produced from every production process. Based on historical data from July 2014 June 2015, the percentage of defect for C models squat toilets reached 20.26%. The company wants the upper limit of defects products only reached 12% for each period of production. Based on previous research, there are two dominant types of defects are cracked/broken and uneven color. Therefore needed improvement through analysis of quality control approach FMEA method and ANOVA. The result of FMEA for cracked/broken defects obtained failure mode is the temperature and duration of combustion products are not appropriate (RPN numbers amounted to 648) and for uneven color obtained failure mode is glazed improper composition (RPN numbers of 576). This study also will provide corrective suggestions through the design of experiments by ANOVA method. The results of the experiment with the design of interaction factor ANOVA showed that long combustion products, glazed composition and temperature of the combustion products provide a significant effect on the amount of product defects

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the characteristics of stationary diesel engines which use a mixture of diesel fuel - biodiesel from sunan candlenut seed. Experiments were done with diesel fuel, B5, B10, B15, and B20 with a variety of engine rotation and load variations. The results showed that the values of torque, power and thermal efficiency when the engine uses B5, B10, B15, and B20 tends to decrease if compared when engine use diesel fuel. And the specific fuel consumption when use B5, B10, B15, and B20 increased. From the results of experiments and calculations, the maximum power of 3.01 kW, minimum specific fuel consumption of 228.58 g/kWh and maximum thermal efficiency of 37.61% when using diesel fuel. However, exhaust emissions were measured include opacity, carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons when the engine using biodiesel B5, B10, B15, and B20 decreased. By using statistical study also obtained correlation and regression equations involving engine performance parameters.
